About our Club
The Winston-Salem Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1919 as the first Kiwanis Club in Winston-Salem and only the fourth club chartered in North Carolina. It was chartered four years after the founding of Kiwanis in Detroit Michigan in 1915. Our club has had a long history spanning over 100 years serving in this community and internationally. This service started shortly after our chartering with the funding of the 1st three public pools in Winston-Salem in the early 1920’s and we have stayed active since that time. We are very active in our local school system sponsoring what Kiwanis calls (Sponsored Leadership Programs). The most well known of these clubs is the “Key Club” which are found at the High School level. Along with the Key Club are “K’ Kids for the Elementary Schools, Builders Club for the Middle Schools, and Circle “K” which is at the College level. We sponsor 9 such club. They are:

We also have several other major activities including our annual Hog Wild BBQ fundraiser.
We believe it is very important that we work closely (Hand in Hand) with our youth in our School Youth Programs. This is to help develop them as the next leaders in this and other communities that they live in as they become adults. We do this by helping them with on their school projects as well as having them work with us on our projects as well as leadership programs. Our desire has always been to uphold the motto of Kiwanis International, “Serving the Children of the World.”
