John Vining introduced our speaker: Dr. Laurie Albertini, Associate Residency Program Director, Brenner Children’s Hospital. She shared information about the pediatric residency program with the Downtown Health Center where they are providing health services to disadvantaged youth and their families. The Downtown Health Plaza, an outpatient clinic of NC baptist Hospital, is a comprehensive medical facility. The Pediatrics is staff by doctors from Brenner Children’s’ Hospital which gives them access ot he most current medical care for both well and sick children. they are committee to providing compassionate and quality care to meet the needs of a growing, increasingly diverse population. Their medical providers and specialists have access to the latest, cutting-edge technology and research to provide the best health care services to their patients.

Our speaker on July 7 was Peter Siavelis, Professor in the Department of Political and International Affairs at W ake Forest University where he is also director of Latin American and Latinos Studies. He has researched and published widely on many aspects of Latin America and Chilean politics. Recently, he wrote the book, Democratic Chile. He has published numerous book chapters and journal articles; writing on topics including candidate selection, election systems, democratic development, immigration and Latin American politics. He has contributed to and has been quoted in a number of media outlets
including the New York Times, Miami Herald, the BBC, NPR, O Globo (Brazil) and is a contributor to Chilean newspapers as well.
Peter presented “Cuba: Revolution, Reform and the Transformation of U.S. Foreign Policy” for the Kiwanis program. He presented information regarding Cuba and the U.S.interventions in Cuba:
